or so it seems... Which makes me sit on my balcony with a good drink and easy music in the middle of the night - life can be so enjoyable! ;) If there just wouldn't be the thesis to be written, which at the moment means heaps of dumb work: Transcribing all the interviews from Santiago. And this can take eternities if you have to look up vocabulary every now and then, not really knowing the exact word or how to spell it. And so the hours pass between leo and langenscheidt. Oh, and only now have I noticed that Chileans really do swallow all the endings!!! Grrrrr... (a kingdom for free Spanish speech recognition software ;) Well, anyway - progressing slowly but steadily.
And then there's just a little bit of time left for concerts and festivals - we went to Düsseldorf for a big Japanese festival - and came right in time for the big pig flue hysteria. They put the whole German-Japanese-school into quarantine! To be honest some of the thousands of manga-fantasy-dressed-teenies frightened me much more - I mean, some looked fantastic and the outfit must have taken ages to design, but then it's just such a strange sub-culture! Might make you wonder, 'what is it and how can I protect myself and my kids from it... ' ;) quoted from here. [Oh, by the way, if you`re interested in really good japanese animes: Try Whisper of the Heart, seen some time ago at studio54. so nice...] Another thing, Japanese are really good at, are fireworks, so that's what they did in the evening. And Greenpeace used the time to inflate a huge whale and play some whale sounds, clever these guys... Besides made a trip to some moon-like landscape at a surface mining place, tried Ethopian food and Alt-Bier at the Rhine and managed to visit Gregor & Inga in Bonn. Didn't see too much of Bonn due to the small steps of young Kira, but that didn't really matter much.

As every year, the beginning of summer meant Fete de la Musique, which was good fun except for the downpour when Jazzanova were playing. And it really was time to see some globetrotters after a long time, so it was Dresden for the weekend and three days of Elbhangfest - a festival along the River Elbe with concerts, dance, theatre,... very lovely. For instance, the Sax Puppets (photo) or Hiss, in case you are into wild world-german-polka!
Oh, and there is somebody/something new amongst us. And it's so cute!!!
