saisonaler erkenntnisgewinn

Okay, ich war ja wirklich lange winterfan dieses jahr.  Hab' mich an verschneiten spreewaldlandschaften (sooo schön, auch wenn wir die schlittschuhe umsonst mitgeschleppt haben) oder winterspaziergängen an und auf brandenburger seen erfreut und dafür stoisch das geschlittere auf den vereisten bürgersteigen der stadt hingenommen. Aber jetzt ist mal genug - alles nur noch dreckiger matsch hier und unter dem einst so schönen schnee kommt plötzlich der ganze sylvestermüll zum vorschein! Bäh!

Und außerdem hab' ich am sonntag einen hauch von frühling erfahren: Seit langem mal wieder auf's rennrad geschwungen und die herrliche sonne genossen. Bei der gelegenheit festgestellt, dass ich schon immer mal mein rad umlackieren wollte. Türkis-violett ist wirklich nicht die schönste farbgebung...

Musikalische februarbegleitung: Die wohlig-warmen melodeien von Midlake (mit wundervollem konzert im Lido), ein schwelgerischer David Gray im Huxley's. Und - to support your local heroes - ein schöner abend mit dem Alma Church Choir in Sepp Maiers 2Raumwohnung. Ja, in dieser wohlklingenden lokalität spielte dieses singer/songwriter-rock-folk duo, und das sehr minimalistisch, multiinstrumental und sehr melancholisch. Und sehr schön. Bezahlt-doch-was-ihr-wollt und holt Euch das album!!!

Year by year, I think, I appreciate the Berlinale more. Shame, those cineastic days are already over once more... If films like 'Bal', 'One Day', 'Summer Wars' or 'Youth in Revolt' should make it into the cinemas - do go and see them! But apart from the fine choice of movies in the panorama and forum section of the festival it's the atmosphere that is so special. For once a year people from all over the world are looking at Berlin,  there's a good balance between glamour and political topics and most of all there's a great audience and applause after the screenings, and when else do you have directors and actors in front to ask questions... (also must be funny for them to see at the spectator's faces and see their reaction after the movies). And: There's this great trailer and the bear! Could they please put those bears on the city streets instead of these ugly Buddy Bears!?!

Must be that white and neverending winter this year that makes you want to cuddle up on the couch, adoring the snow storm from the safe and warm flat (that is, if you ignore the bad windows of the old house and wear a second jumper...). And if you then want some fine tunes match the candle light and to warm your heart: Forget rock and electronic, listen to all that great songwriting and folk stuff that's out there somewhere!!! For instance in the wonderful universe of the BBC music websites, where there are hours of good radio and video features. BBC Scotland has some great programmes on music festivals around this time of the year such as Celtic Connections and the Transatlantlic Sessions. Oh, what lovely fiddles! And then there's the pleasure of listening to that awesome accent! ;)  (oh, btw, it's so unfair that you can't see all the features if you're in Germany (and I don't know where else). just as spotify! want to have, too!!!)

Then I just discovered a bit of American roots music: Wow, what great voices are those of Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle or Townes Van Zandt!?! And quite suitable for getting into the mood: Tonight we'll first have yummie burgers at White Trash Fast Food and then listen to Holly Williams around the corner (good to win tickets) - yahoo!   ;)   Song of the day by Bon Iver. For his name is so absolutely true this winter (to those francophiles out there), and for writing such a nice piece of music!

Luftschlösser und Wohnzimmer

Schön ist, wenn weihnachtsgeschenke noch lange nach der bescherung für (vor-)freude sorgen. So z.b. 'An Instance of the Fingerpost', auf dessen 700 seiten ich allabendlich ins England des 17. jahrhunderts abtauche. Oder aber letzten mittwoch, denn waren Air zu gast in der stadt. Also mit großer vorfreude durch das schneegestöber zum Huxley's gestiefelt (wie toll, das Huxley's scheint sich nach renovierung wieder unter den veranstaltungsorten zu etablieren, sehr begrüßenswert! auch, wenn bei den garderoben noch verbesserungspotential ist...).

 

Irgendwie hatten die beiden herren von Air sich aber vom grauen tag anstecken lassen, denn in luftig leichte sphären konnte man nur hin und wieder bei den alten songs abtauchen. Sonst haben sie ihre setlist arg routiniert runtergerattert - dabei hätte gerade das neue album viel hergeben können, wenn sie mal ein bisschen eher als beim letzten song kräftig in ihre syhnthie-tasten und gitarrensaiten gehauen hätten. Schade. (oder wie stand es in der berliner zeitung angesichts ihrer weißen anzüge im schwarzlicht und des gewöhnungsbedürftig verzerrten gesangs der beiden: 'androiden beim logopäden'. ;)

Now - that's a room with a view! Denn dank des letztens geposteten seminars zu stadtplanung in Berlin hab ich's endlich mal in die caféteria im 20. stock des Telefunken-Hochhaus der TU geschafft. Absoluter tip - wüßte nicht, wo man sonst so günstig essen und eine großartige aussicht genießen kann! Und außerdem gab's viel gedankennahrung im seminar (über die planbarkeit von brüchen in der stadt, wassertaxis auf der spree und leuchttürme in Neukölln). Weniger ausblick, dafür absolute wohnzimmeratmosphäre im Café Bilderbuch in Schöneberg für mich entdeckt: Auch hier wollt ich schon lang mal hin, allein schon wegen des sonntagsfrühstücks mit piano-begleitung. Abends mindestens genauso empfehlenswert, wenn's konzerte gibt und man in einem der vielen sofas mit einem guten glas wein versinkt.
